Friend and co-conspirator in general Piratical behaviour throughout our careers, Sam Conniff Allende has written a defining text about the contemporary worker as a charge to not just challenge the rules, but re-write them: Be More Pirate. It was a #1 Amazon Bestseller. In support of the book launch, we gave over our window to the Pirate and gave away signed copies of it with every purchase. I heartily recommend it: a rip-roaring read.
Our second illustrator for the Carnaby Style Weekender with GQ was a new pensmith Rilla.127, whose design played with Greek orthodox imagery. His in-store penning on the back of a dusty pink Coach Jacket has become one of our most coveted collab items in our archive.
Our contribution to the Carnaby Style Weekender with GQ was to invite two brilliant illustrators to create limited edition graphic tees for us, then demonstrate their art in-store. On the Saturday, Mr Lee arrived with paints to deliver Chinese Opera Masks on our signature Overalls. These were accompanied by two exclusive tees: what he dubbed Labour > Leisure with ‘We Worked Hard' & Culture > Couture with ‘Opera’.
As a former trustee of the ICA, I am inspired by contemporary art, artists and the folks who drive the industry. Marguerite London are champions of women in arts. So they wore our overalls for their appearance at the yearly #SheInspiresMe art/fashion car-boot sale in aid of Women For Women UK.
The newly-opened Hackney hot-spot Mare Street Market is quite literally a market place - featuring bar, restaurant, deli, Pod-cast centre alongside Rebel Rebel florist, Stranger Than Paradise record shop, Pure White Lines antiques, Flying Horse Coffee. At its launch we popped-up as a store, but importantly provided branded uniforms for every member of staff, including reflective denim suits for the security staff. They loved it.
